Are you a co-op person?

Teen Learning Center was started in 1999. We are a cooperative and not a tutorial. This means, for each family that has students who attend, at least one parent must teach a class or classes made up of other families' children. Utilizing the shared strengths of all of our parents, Teen Learning Center provides strong classes to meet the needs of our current students. We strive for academic excellence in all of our classes and quality work is expected from tutors as well as students.

FEES

*The family fee for the 2024-25 year is $350* for the first child plus a charge of $100* for each additional child. This fee caps at $650* per year per family.

*This fee is due on the first day of class. It can be broken into 4 equal payments due each 8 weeks with postdated checks.

*New families are asked to make a $100 deposit to hold their spot. This is applied to their family fee balance.

*Each class also has a fee to cover the cost of copies, lab and art supplies. These fees vary depending on the class, with science classes averaging around $50 and other classes usually less. Class fees for the following year are due at the time of registration. They are not refundable.

*Fees subject to change

REGISTRATION

At the beginning of April, each lead tutor prepares a letter outlining the curriculum that the class will use, fees, class expectations, and basic information about the class. Those letters are compiled into a document that is emailed to all parents to consult as they make class choices for their children.

Later in April, parents are given the opportunity to sign up for the classes they desire for their children to take in the upcoming school year. Registration at TLC takes place online.

CLASS TIME

As part of TLC, each participating parent serves as a tutor or helper in one to four classes.

Since we meet only one day a week, that ENTIRE hour is used for instruction, review, or testing.

(The majority of tests are sent home to be supervised by the parent.)

All homework assignments are given in writing.

COMMITTEES

Each participating parent will be expected to serve in some capacity, at one of our various jobs or on a committee. (There are committees for school parties, moms’ retreat, morning devotions, staff gifts, yearbook, and others.) Our desire is to utilize your gifts and to keep TLC running smoothly.

**Parents will be given an opportunity to sign up for committees that interest them. If necessary, the coordinators may need to also assign parents to a committee to help with the work load.

YOUR FIRST YEAR

The Teen Learning Center is not exclusive, but we are intentional; a unique homeschooling group that works closely together. We look for parents that can fill tutor roles where we have openings, and we look for students who will work in the age groups that we currently have established. We interview and pray for prospective families with these goals in mind. We also endeavor to keep close contact with our new families to help them smoothly transition in and to succeed in their first year at TLC. Either the TLC Coordinators or the new family have the right to end the partnership at the end of the year if either one feels that the situation is not mutually beneficial.
